/eagles game, did you see, this turned into a complete whiteout. nearly 8 inches of snow blanketed the field in the second half. the weather channel's mike seidel has been following this storm and is now in leesburg, virginia. what's the forecast here? looks like fun where you are. >> reporter: oh, it's a lot of fun. ice and snow. yesterday we had 4 inches of snow, then we had the ice overnight so you wake up this morning to this. this is always fun to do, scrape the ice and have it pelt you. but good news. by the way, the roads are in great shape. we've got asphalt here, black asphalt. what they did is they treated them and now temperatures, chris, have gone up to 33 out here at dulles airport. reagan went above freezing last night before midnight so within the capital beltway it was a better situation. but overnight we picked up a lot of ice on top of the snow and it comes right off like this like a pancake. you can see almost an inch of ice. it's collected on the trees. now it's beginning to melt but the trees have been stressed out. that has knocked out a lot of power, even since w

football games in the snow, the ravens were in the snow and eagles and steelers were in the snow and redskins were in the snow. because we had an overachieving system that produced 2 to 4 inches very close to and into the metro areas. as a matter of fact, all of the snow piles you see here are from that event. today was more of an underachiever. you can see behind me the harbor starting to become visible as the storm lifts out. a few leftover flurries and temperature warmed up. that's the other thing, sunday we were 30 and heavier snow. today we were 32, and light to moderate snow. just all of the different level of what happens in the city, a couple of degrees makes all the difference in the world. that said, you go 20 miles west, 20 miles to my northwest, 40 and 60 miles you're in the brand of 3 to 6 inches of snow and that's what the winter storm had to say. we're going to get cold thursday and friday here. we're going to start getting milder and wetter as we head into the weekend. a new storm developing and this time it looks like it won't be a difficult forecast. for new york, p

field and the ravens and vikings in that game and what we saw with the lions and the eagles. another storm system is headed this way. that's where the weather channel's jim cantore joins me from andover, massachusetts. we have this ice storm out of the way, but this appears to be an appetizer. is that the best way to look at it? >> i think it was the main event and this is the dessert coming in. for much of the east. yesterday was a big time overachiever. we expected two to four inches in philly in parts of new jersey and northern virginia. we had as many as 13 inches. >> what was missed on this? >> i think sometimes you can get systems like this that are flat. it's not just one bigelow pressure system. sometimes the flat waves can give us a jolt. that just happened right over the northeast from about eastern kentucky to the east coast. atlantic city we had snow yesterday. these are overachievers. they went under the radar in terms of the forecast. that said, there is another one coming through utah to texas tonight. same areas again into kentucky and tennessee. it will be moving too

rather me home with a glass of wine in my hand. go eagles! >> crazy. joining me from out in the elements, the weather channel's mike seidel. dylan dreyer and of course warm and dry is of course bill karins in studio. i want to start first with weather channel meteorologist mike seidel live in leesburg, virginia, about 40 miles outside of washington, d.c. mike, i understand -- i saw you earlier this morning predawn and it was pretty icy. what's it like right now? >> reporter: it's beginning to loosen up a little bit. temperatures have climbed to 33 at nearby dulles so doing this is a whole lot easier. this morning you needed an ice pick o'pir pick ax. by the way, philadelphia, 8.6 inches yesterday. that's more snow than they had the entire season last year. that was 8.3. everything under your feet is ice. now, we had 4 inches of snow and then the ice on top. it's a layer, like a big ole thick pancake. you can see that's all ice. about half an inch of ice on the trees that stressed them out. right now power outages have been increasing through northern virginia down through the sh
